Pete Nicholson of Gaga Publishing presents this workshop on everything you need to know about getting your music published including:
• The basics of music publishing: what music publishing is, how it works, and its importance to artists’ careers (i.e. how artists are entitled to make money from their craft, and how publishing enables them to do this)
• What music publishers do: what good music publishers do on behalf of the artist (i.e ensure artists are paid fairly for use of their works, administer copyright and royalties, maximise licensing revenue, exploit commercial opportunities, protect artists’ works against unlicensed usage/infringement, connect artists with other artists and relevant industry contacts, etc)
• How publishing is changing/evolving in the digital age (i.e. music is becoming more accessible and more widely used in advertising, film TV and online; some publishers are multi skilling and entering into digital aggregration and media servicing, while some labels and publicity companies are getting into publishing) and what this means for artists
• How to get a fair deal (avoiding dubious deals, such as some common ones with overseas synch agencies; knowing your rights; and the importance of consulting a music lawyer before signing anything).
